New York Latin Jazz All Stars at Detroit International Jazz Festival

This will be on Saturday August 30th. Time TBD but in the evening. It is an out door event so should be casual dress and comfy shoes! It is in Hart Plaza in Downtown Detroit. I looked into this group and they do usually play danceable latin jazz and salsa!

The Latin Jazz All Stars are a phenomenal ensemble that features the current masters of Afro Cuban, Salsa, Brazilian, and Latin Jazz. Ray Vega, Jimmy Bosch, Chembo Corniel, Arturo O‘Farrill, Phoenix Rivera, Pete Escovedo & Yunior Terry take the stage as one unit to give an evening of brilliant music. The ensemble has performed to sold out crowds and packed houses all over the country. This "super band" features no leader; the participants share the spotlight and showcase each other! The Latin Jazz All Stars are sure to bring any audience to their feet!

.Winner of the Latin Jazz USA Outstanding Achievement Award for 2003, Arturo O’Farrill was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. In 2002 O’Farrill and Wynton Marsalis created the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra for Jazz at Lincoln Center. His debut album with the orchestra, "Una Noche Inolvidable" earned a GRAMMY award nomination in 2006.
Educated at the Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, Mr. O’Farrill played piano with the Carla Bley Big Band from 1979 to 1983. He then went on to play with Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, The Fort Apache Band, Lester Bowie and Harry Belafonte.

As an educator he has taught master classes, seminars and workshops throughout the world for students and teachers of all levels. In the Spring of 2006 Arturo O’Farrill led a successful tour of Mexico showcasing the Lincoln Center Latin Jazz Orchestra. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two sons.

Phoenix Rivera, the son of international legend Mario Rivera, was born in New York City in 1965. Guided by his father’s musical insight, Mr. Rivera taught himself the technical aspects of the drums. He has played with musicians such as Hilton Ruiz, Dave Valentin, Bobby Bell, Eurythmics, Robert Palmer, Chico O’Farrill and Tito Puente.
