TDS Social Review

The TDS social should be a standard part of Detroit Salseros dance rotation. The Troy Dance studio has a few things going for it that make it a worth while stop.

Some of the highlights…

Exceptional facilities
A lot of time and money has been invested in the studio to create a very nice ambiance. The dance floor is superb, the decorations are warm and inviting, and they have even added additional light and strobe machines to give the studio a night club feel.

DJ Isaac

DJ Isaac
More importantly, the music is very good, especially when DJ Isaac is at the helm. Isaac always plays an excellent mix from the salsa dura classics to the more modern salsa tracks done in the salsa dura style. Isaac seems to understand what salseros are looking for in a song and keeps delivering track after track of great salsa music that you can feel in your soul and keep your feet itching to dance all night long.

It’s where the dancers will be
Another good reason to show up to this event is due to the simple fact that there are no other good options for salsa dancers on a Saturday night. Don’t get me wrong, There are other places you can visit on a Saturday night to hear some salsa. But once a month this place will be the best and will likely draw in the people who are into dancing salsa.

Performances
The TDS social frequently presents professional salsa instructors to teach and perform at their socials. They presented performances by Urban Vibe from Chicago, Giovanni Torres from Toronto, and most recently, Fever Passion of Puerto Rico. It is a nice added bonus to any salsa event and it gives people an opportunity to see how salsa is done in other parts of the world.

TDS Beginner Student
Performance Video
This last social featured something a little different. Elaine gathered up all of her beginner students that showed up to the social and had them put on a little performance for everyone. It was a fun thing to do and a great way to build up the confidence level of the new students. It seems scary at first dancing in front of people but like Elaine said, once it is over you will realize it is not that bad! On top of that I was pretty impressed with what they were able to whip together and execute. Nice Job!!

The Downside

Fever Passion Performance Video
Every month 50-60 people show up to dance, but there is a bit of a downside... The downside is that only 50-60 people show up to dance. With all the nice things going for the TDS Social you would think that a lot more people would show up. I don't know what keeps people from coming but maybe a little more promotion would help!

Conclusion
In all seriousness, if you are looking for an excellent place to dance salsa on a Saturday night, this is your place (remember, it's only once a month). The ambiance, the music, and people make this event something that any salsa fan should check out at least once!

Nice event

I think its a nice event. I haven't been to a lot - in part because my main dance nights are Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday -- so Friday and Saturday I ususally take the night off. I think this night mainly needs wider promotion - sometimes it looks like promotions outside the TDS students are an afterthought...

I agree

I went and had a nice time... the performances were great and the music was good. They have a big dance floor, it was disappointing to see so few people. Outside of the ya site I saw NO ads or fliers for the event, in fact I only knew about it the morning of the event. I think if they promote it better they could have a good turn out and turn into another great place to salsa dance once a month.

Congratz to DJ Isaac!

Congratz goes out to Isaac on his new opportunity to DJ at the 2008 Chicago Salsa Congress! Knock em out!
